Bill Gates appeared behind closed doors before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to discuss his ties to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Labeling his decision to meet Epstein as a 7serious error in judgment,8 Gates expressed regret and said he should have never met Epstein.
During the testimony, Gates asserted he never observed any criminal activity by Epstein and had no knowledge of Epsteins crimes. He detailed that their connection emerged through philanthropic and professional circles but he decisively cut off contact in 2014 after realizing Epstein was unable to assist with promised fundraising efforts.
Lawmakers launched their inquiry after reviewing numerous documents and emails linking Gates to Epstein, including evidence of meetings and communications related to philanthropy. Gates name appears multiple times throughout the broader trove of Epstein files recently made public, prompting Congressional interest.
The tech mogul also denied ever visiting Epsteins infamous island or other notorious properties associated with Epsteins illicit activities. Gates hopes that his voluntary testimony will contribute meaningfully to the committees ongoing investigation and provide justice to those affected by Epsteins crimes.
In response to circulating allegations from Epstein-related documents, including mentions of sexually transmitted infections, Gates representative vehemently described such claims as completely false and absolutely ridiculous.
As the House Oversight Committee continues scrutinizing the Epstein connections to various influential figures, Gates cooperation marks a significant moment in understanding the full extent of Epsteins network.
