Jakapong “Anne” Jakrajutatip, co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, has had an arrest warrant issued by the Bangkok South Civil Court following her failure to appear at a hearing related to a civil fraud lawsuit. The case involves allegations that Jakrajutatip and her company, JKN Global Group, defrauded plastic surgeon Raweewat Maschamadol by selling corporate bonds valued at approximately $930,000 under misrepresented terms. The investor claims payments stopped in 2023, prompting the lawsuit. The court views Jakrajutatip as a flight risk after discovering she had left Thailand without notifying the court, leading to the warrant issuance. A new court date is set for December 26, 2025.
Jakrajutatip had previously resigned from her roles at JKN Global Group amid scrutiny over financial reporting issues and regulatory accusations. Though a co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization through JKN, the ongoing fraud case is not directly linked to the pageants operations. The organization has stressed that its event planning and management continue unaffected.
In a separate matter, Ra l Rocha, who owns a 50% stake in the Miss Universe Organization through Legacy Holding Group USA, is facing serious criminal charges in Mexico. Prosecutors allege Rocha leads a criminal organization involved in smuggling activities related to drug trafficking. These charges are unrelated to the fraud case involving Jakrajutatip but have added to growing scrutiny of the pageants ownership amid complex legal controversies.
These developments come at a delicate time for the Miss Universe brand, which holds global cultural significance. The dual legal challenges highlight the pressures and vulnerabilities inherent in high-profile international entertainment enterprises and the necessity of clear, responsible leadership to safeguard their reputations.
Despite the legal distractions, sources familiar with the Miss Universe Organization affirm that preparations for upcoming pageants remain on schedule, with no anticipated impact on contestants and fans worldwide. The status of the court proceedings in Bangkok and the Mexican legal inquiries will be closely watched in the coming months.
